4A Games Reaffirms Commitment to Metro Series Amid Studio Split and New Projects

4A Games has assured fans that they are still actively engaged in the development of the Metro series. Recently, a number of developers who previously contributed to the Metro franchise at 4A Games Ukraine established a new studio called Reburn. As mentioned last week, they unveiled their debut project, La Quimera, and understandably chose to relocate from Russia to Latin America.

Despite the formation of Reburn, 4A Games continues to work on the Metro series and finds the recent press release from Reburn, which referred to them as former Metro developers, somewhat misleading. In a statement, they extended their best wishes to their former colleagues for La Quimera while reaffirming their commitment to the ongoing Metro series.

4A Games stated,

We are the creators of the beloved Metro games. Our team is diligently developing the next installment alongside Dmitry Glukhovsky, backed by the same founding members, leadership, and developers with nearly 20 years of experience in this franchise. Additionally, we have another new intellectual property project underway, with more details to reveal when the time is right.

Proudly rooted in Ukraine, the majority of our diverse team operates from our offices in Kyiv and Sliema, as well as remotely, and occasionally from the front lines in Ukraine. While we now have studios in two countries, the bulk of our workforce remains in Ukraine—around 150 out of more than 200. The remaining team members are based in Malta or work remotely.

The rationale behind the company split is clarified as follows:

We maintained a close relationship with our Ukrainian colleagues at 4A Games Ukraine during the development of Metro Exodus through an outsourcing arrangement that we oversaw. After the release of Metro Exodus and its downloadable content, we established a new studio in Kyiv, known as 4A Games Limited, and welcomed about 50 more colleagues to join us. Meanwhile, 4A Games Ukraine continued to focus on their own project, La Quimera, operating as a separate entity and rebranding themselves as Reburn.

However, there appears to be no rivalry between the two Ukrainian studios. 4A Games concluded with well wishes for the success of their former colleagues and emphasized their commitment to returning to the Metro series, expressing their support for Ukraine as they move forward.
